Details of the Schedule

Pick up from your hotel. First Jade Buddha Temple. Built between 1911 and 1918 in Song dynasty style, this active place of worship is one of Shanghai's few buddhist temples.
The absolute centrepiece of the temple is its 1.9m-high pale-green jade buddha, seated upstairs in his own hall.It is via Tibet, lugged five jade Buddhas back to China and then went off in search of alms to build a temple for them.

Then drive to People's Square to visit Shanghai Museum. A primer of Chinese civilisation recounted via 120,000 exhibits, the intelligently designed museum guides you through the pages if Chinese history.

Before having lunch, have 45 minutes for a short visit to the fresh water pearl gallery. Here you will see the process of pearl cultivation. Or visit Silk Factory, which is not only an interesting site to see how Chinese silk has been produces since 14th century, but also a nice place to buy a souvenir.

After lunch visit Yuyuan Garden. With its shaded alcoves, glittering pools churning with carp, pavilions, pines sprouting wistfully from rockeries, whispering bamboo, jasmine clumps, stony recesses, Yuyuan Garden is one of Shanghai's top-totch sight.  Close to the garden is bazaar, Chiese towns traditionally came with a Taoist Temple of the Town God. Lots of small streets and lanes where vendors sell their products and food stuffs to the tourists.

 

Then move to Old French Concenssion in Xuhui District. If you want to see the city's best profile, the Frech Concenssion is Shanghai sunny side up, at its coolest, hippest and most elegant.
